Paraguay has confirmed three hantavirus cases in 2026, all in men, with two from Boquerón and one from Presidente Hayes. The Western Region (Chaco) is an endemic area, and isolated cases also occur in the Eastern Region. The primary reservoir is the house mouse, and transmission is mainly through inhalation of contaminated aerosols from rodent excreta. Person-to-person transmission of the Andes virus, which is not present in Paraguay, has not been documented locally.
