Professor Mohamed Janabi, Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Africa, stated that while the hantavirus risk for Africa remains low, vigilance is high following a confirmed case in South Africa. A patient from the MV Hondius cruise ship was medically evacuated to a private health facility in Sandton, South Africa. Additionally, two other passengers, a couple, also died. The Andes virus, known for its potential for human-to-human transmission, is implicated in this outbreak.
