In Paraguay, 3 hantavirus cases have been confirmed in 2026, all in men, with two from Boquerón and one from Presidente Hayes. The Western Region (Chaco) is an area of confirmed virus circulation among rodents. The primary reservoir is the Callomys laucha. Transmission is mainly through inhalation of contaminated aerosols from rodent excreta. Person-to-person transmission has only been documented for the Andes virus, which is not present in Paraguay.
