Spain's Health Ministry confirmed on May 25, 2026, that a Spanish national, evacuated from the MV Hondius cruise ship and in quarantine in a Madrid military hospital, tested positive for hantavirus. This is the second positive case among 14 Spanish nationals evacuated to Tenerife. The Public Health Agency of Canada also confirmed a positive case in a Canadian isolating in British Columbia. The Andes hantavirus outbreak has infected 12 people and caused three deaths.
